    First Post!, Birthday Happenings
First Post! If this were /., I'd feel so 1337.

So much has happened in a year. I set this account up over a year ago in the hopes of keeping up with people better, and, well, I just never posted. So much has happened, some wonderful, some terrible. But don't get your hopes up, I'm not going to write January 1st-type drivel. So what's new.

Yesterday was extremely cool. As I've been telling people, it was one of those rare, perfect gems of a day. "Mom" (to clarify, Sarah and I call her parents Mom & Dad and my parents Mama & Papa) had asked me about a week ago if I wanted to spend the day with her. She wanted to take me out for my birthday and have a chance to buy me something she knew I wouldn't exchange.

<g.> I'd also planned on running a few errands and doing some work on the car in the relative warmth of their garage. Sarah asked me in the morning if I could be home by like 6 or maybe 6:30 because she had a special dinner planned for us. I was pleasantly surprised by the idea, thought she planned on making fried bread for me, actually, and said I'd try to be back in time. I found the couple of things I needed to get on my way without too much trouble--I'm prone to lose things--, got a shower, and went on my way.

Dropped by to see Zac, Sarah's cousin. He needed a VGA cable, and I'd been meaning to get it to him since Christmas.

Got to Mom and Dad's. We went to Ruby Tuesday's for lunch, and then hit the stores. Found a rather nice pair of black slacks so that now I can stop making my tux pants do double duty for black concert attire; she wanted to buy me some pants since up until now she's bought me tops. We looked at slippers, since Sarah wanted me to find a pair of slippers she could buy me. At another store, we finally found the perfect robe, which was the other things she was going to buy me.

Got back to the house. Now I had to run by my brother's in Glen Burnie. He'd gotten this printer for xmas, but his computer needed more ram before he could use it, so I dug up a 128 meg stick of pc100, which is the generation he needed. Saw my nephew and sister-in-law before getting on my way back to Mom and Dad's. Mom had said that she needed me to help Dad move a shelf from Scott's room. So I rushed back there--it's like 5:15 by now--so that I could help her do that and then get home to Sarah. I know now that moving the shelf was really just subterfuge to keep me busy and "on time." Loaded up the trunk with some extra wood Dad was sending my way and called Sarah to let her know I was on my way back home.

Pulled up to the house, saw that Sarah was upstairs in the study on the computer, and flashed my lights to let her know I was home. Came in the house carrying some bags to a loud "Surprise!!!" Wow. What a thrill. Sarah had invited over a dozen of our friends for a surprise birthday party. Very cool. Balloons, big cake with rather amazing decoration, food, etc. Good times. Last guest didn't leave until midnight, and then we took Tim's advice. (Lyuda's, too. <g.>) I was so extremely flattered to have my friends come over to celebrate my birthday. A few months ago I'd said something to Sarah about never having had a surprise birthday party and how I'd always kinda wanted one, and she pulled it off. I never saw it coming. She makes my dreams come true.

So it was a great day.

I'll try to post more often. Shouldn't be hard to do, considering that almost anything to be construed as more often than I have.
